The French 75

Try this take on the mimosa

If you're a mimosa drinker, you may love the French 75 cocktail. It's quite similar but it's also got a tasty twist! A mixture of gin, sugar, lemon juice and champagne, it's on the stronger side, making it the perfect choice if you're looking to really unwind at brunch! The drink also has an elegant history of being created in Paris during World War I. The kick in the beverage was said to be akin to being hit by a French 75mm field gun, hence the name.

The beverage is also pretty similar to a Tom Collins, which is pretty much the same thing except with the Champagne being replaced with plain water.

Have you ever enjoyed a French 75 drink? How did you like it?

The Negroni Slushy

Ever tried it?

At Parson's Chicken & Fish, there is a drink that is literally and figuratively quite cool: the Negroni Slushy. Made with Letherbee gin and other fine ingredients, it's a must-have if you venture to Chicago, but if you can't, you can still make one at home.

Getting the ingredients is really the hardest part. Assemble together an ounce of Campari, an ounce of gin, an ounce of sweet vermouth, a half-ounce of simple syrup and 2 cups of crushed ice or ice cubes. Blend it all together until you have a delightfully delicious, boozy slushie perfect for any hot day. This would be a great hit at your summer barbecues, too.

Infused Bubbly Recipes

Share yours here

Over the weekend, I attempted to make some prosecco infused with plums and thyme simple syrup. Oh, was it a disaster. I'm thinking that I just bought the wrong bubbly (hopefully that was it), but maybe it's also just not the drink for me. My question is, do you have a great recipe for a fruity drink infusion that you can share?

I'd love something with some summer fruit featured in it but any kind of fruit will work. Herbs and homemade simple sugars are great as well, but it doesn't have to contain those.

Have you ever bombed a cocktail recipe? How about mastered one?

Raspberry Drinks

Post your favorite recipe

Raspberries are one of nature's perfect foods. Not only are they low in sugar and tasty as can be, but they are also full of nutrients and incredibly versatile. Raspberry flavored drinks are some of the most incredible beverages. Whether you include raspberry syrup in your tea or freshly-muddled berries in your cocktail, you're bound to experience a treat! One of the most delicious raspberry cocktails of the season is the raspberry sorbet bellini. It's a super simple recipe that anyone can make and it's perfect for Mother's Day. All you need is raspberry sorbet, some fresh raspberries and Pink Moscato.

Heartbeat Can Be Disrupted by Binge Drinking

It's always important to drink wisely

Getting your drink on can be a fun and relaxing way to spend your time, but binge drinking comes with its dangers. Drinking smart is always important, and not just because you can make some stupid decisions when you binge drink without planning it. Drinking a large amount of alcohol at one time can create an irregular heartbeat, or cardiac arrhythmia, no matter your weight or level of health. In a study of individuals who consumed 12 pints of beer, nearly a third of them experienced irregular heartbeats. People who did not drink only experienced irregular heartbeats between 1 to 4 percent of the time, pointing toward the massive amounts of alcohol as the cause. Given this knowledge, it's more important than ever to go easy on the binge drinking to avoid health problems.

What kinds of plans do you make when you are drinking? How do you stay safe while you have a good time?

Drinking Accessories

What are your favorites?

Any good barista knows that decent accessories are needed to create good drinks—even at home. You probably already have a good-sized shaker at home. You may even have some fancy ice scoops, pourers and even swizzle sticks! One of my favorite new drink accessories is this sloth tea strainer.

Loose teas are so delicious, but they can be a mess—and it’s nice to have a reusable tea strainer. Many reusable strainers have the issue of leaking leaves, but this one is the perfect size for a cup without spilling leaves out into your mug. Whether you’re making hot toddies, a whiskey tea highball or simply a nice cuppa, it’s so important to choose a quality tea that you like.

Boxed Wine for the Win

Just give it a try!

If you’ve ever snubbed your nose at a box of boxed wine, it’s time to fess up. Why did you think that cardboard container was so inferior to your bottle? Sure, it might be cheaper, but it’s not necessarily a terrible product. Some boxed wines happen to be very high quality, and they save you money while they save more resources from environmental waste.

When I lived in Spain, many of my friends and I regularly drank from quality boxed wine to save money as well as space (carrying your groceries from the store to campus was never light to begin with!). It was common among everyone—not just college students—to enjoy boxed wines and there were just as many boxes as bottles on the shelves.

Would you be open to trying a boxed wine? Do you already drink it and if so, what kind do you enjoy?

Some Alcohols are Better Than Others

Do your favorites make the cut?

Did you know that when it comes to drinking, you can make much smarter choices than others depending on your goals? If you are trying to cut down on sugar, for example, vodka is a great choice. It’s also the alcohol of choice for those who are after gluten free options. Tequila, on the other hand, will speed up your metabolism.

If you’re looking for antioxidants in your drinking, you probably already know that red wine is your best choice, but did you know that champagne may help protect your memory? Hard seltzers are a good choice if you want to avoid too many artificial colors and flavors.

Is there any particular drink you stick to for your health or other reasons? Share your tips here.

What Type of Drinker Are You?

After ordering a very rare drink for me at a restaurant, a waiter remarked, "I know which side of the table is the fun side!" He was being cute (and he was cute), but in all honesty, I'm a sleepy drinker. I rarely drink because when I do, it just adds to my usual state of exhaustion and leaves me groggily blinking, ready for a nap (or longer). I also grew up around drinkers and I've seen every kind, from the hysterical laugher to the crying drunk, the repetitive, clingy drinker to my least favorite of all, the one that's hurt my family and me the most--the mean drunk.

It got me thinking about how often hosts will push alcohol (as they are trained to do; it's no fault of their own) on people without even knowing who they are, what they'll do with that boozy blood, or what they've done in the past after drinking. How many people are one drink away from sobriety, or from self-destruction? It's a pretty morbid line of thought to have at a TGI Friday's.

What kind of drinker are you? Do you order drinks out often?
