Spiked Halloween Potions

Gather your ingredients for a tasty cauldron of fun!

Are you whipping up some fun brews and potions for your Halloween party? Here's yet another batch of fun ideas to use as you prepare. Whether you serve up drinks in a bubbling cauldron or some potion vials, these potions are sure to be a hit.

Morgue A Ritas are SO fun with their spooky drip-down effects, and Mr. Hyde, while looking almost too scary to drink, offers up the tasty, juicy flavor of blackberries to your guests. Bloody Orange Cocktail may scare the pants off guests as it looks like blood running through a yellow drink, but it's also very yummy.

Halloween Witches Brew

Make some for your next party

Any excuse to make punch is alright in my book. Moved from night shift to day shift? It's punch time! Spent the day walking without your shoes getting untied? Sounds like an occasion for punch to me. But Halloween is especially ripe for punch, and it's so easy to make.

For my punch, I just combine equal parts lemon-lime soda with fruit punch, then top with lots of scoops of sorbet. Mixed sorbet is great, and I really like the raspberry stuff if you can get that. For Halloween, you can add eyeballs, fingers and other (clean) plastic decorations to make it more spooky! You can even use molds to create these items out of ice.

For a witchy brew, swap the fruit punch for the green punch. Purple also works well if you want to experiment with flavors. Some dry ice goes a long way for some mystery and mood, too! For an adult version, try spiking it with vodka!

Wine Advent Calendars

Have you ever had one?

Have you heard the big news? Aldi is selling a holiday advent box of wines this fall! The store will include 24 mini bottles, or the equivalent of six full bottles of wine, in a festive holiday box that is perfect for gift-giving or enjoying on your own. It will contain both reds and whites as well as bubbly flavors. Unfortunately the set will only be available in the U.K. this year, but hopefully Aldi will sell it in U.S. stores by next year.

That doesn't mean you can't have a wine advent calendar, of course! You can always buy from another source. Everyone from Amazon.com to Saks Fifth Avenue sells wine calendars at a very diverse array of prices and qualities, so you can just search for the best one for your budget and tastes.

You can always make your own with mini bottles, too! This would be a thoughtful gift for someone special. Have you ever made a wine advent calendar?

Everyone should know a handful of drinks to make

You don't have to be a bartender to know a good repertoire of drinks. Anyone who entertains should know at least a handful of good drink recipes, practice them and be able to make them well. Give Your Drink Some Flair

Dress up your cocktails

We often lament how pricey drinks at restaurants can be, but they are sooo good. Why are they better than the drinks we make at home? Sure, they are often made with premium ingredients, but sometimes it's just a matter of the garnish. If you take the time to dress up your drink, you might be surprised at how good it tastes, even when it's made at home!

Have you considered, for example, lining the rim of your drink with something like salt, sugar or even pop rocks! That would certainly liven it up a bit. How about adding in some fresh fruit or vegetables into your cocktail? From bitters to cotton candy, lime wedges to coarse salt, the right garnish can really amp up your drink to the sophistication level that you crave from a restaurant-quality counter-drink!

What kinds of garnishes have you come up with at home? Share with us your inspiring ideas!
