Radioactive Waste 810 - Drones Are Being Developed To Monitor Uranium Legacy Sites In Central Asia

A new technology using drones has been developed and is set to be deployed for remote monitoring of radiation measurements at former uranium mining and processing areas in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are equipped with gamma spectrometers developed by a German consortium in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Zombie Frog Discovered

Humans keep doing zombies dirty lately. We love the idea of calling everything a zombie so much that we're dubbing anything cool a zombie. Take this new frog species discovered in the Amazon. It doesn't have much in common with a zombie at all, yet it was hailed the zombie frog simply because the researchers worked so hard to find it and looked like zombies afterward.

Growing Calendula

Calendula is beautiful, so growing it just for that reason is great, but there are lots of cool health benefits from the plant to reap, too. I must be honest here and say I don't grow it to harvest it myself. I love the look so I let mine grow, then I support small herb companies by buying a container that's loaded with the petals!

All The Skewers

Why is it so much fun to eat food off a stick? We have reusable skewers that can be used again and again to make delicious kebabs over a grill (or not), and there's just something about eating food off a stick in the summertime. So why not play with some recipes?

Domestic Violence Spikes Post Sporting Events

If we ever needed proof that fragile, toxic masculinity--not normal, positive masculinity but the stuff that white supremacy and capitalism have corrupted--is the worst, the news that domestic abuse increases dramatically over sport team losses is it. In England, when the country's team lost the World Cup, domestic violence surged a whopping 38%. Drawn matches have increased DV by 26%.

Human Composting Legalized

No state is perfect by any means, but when it comes to human dignity and freedom balanced with equity, the states of the PNW are often in the front of the line. Oregon just joined Washington and Colorado in legalizing human composting as a way to naturally treat human remains. Also known as natural organic reduction, which sounds prettier, the process was first legalized in Washington.

Starbucks Passport Series

As a sucker for just about any flavor of coffee--iced or hot--I had to grab this Starbucks Chocolate Churro bottled Frappuccino when I spotted it at the gas station. I wasn't disappointed! Chocolate and cinnamon is one of my favorite combinations and I was so happy with this little impulse buy. I turns out that the company launched three flavors in this new Passport Series this year.

Crazy Head Comics

The power of collaboration and sharing on the Internet will never cease to amaze. Gen Z is turning out to be the most self-aware, forward-thinking generation ever, and much of it is because they have access to this tool. One of the best topics being shared across the globe right now is mental health and not only its many facets, but its importance. Artist Matilda, creator of Crazy Head Comics, is my latest favorite example.
