The Muppets Are On Netflix!

Rejoice and behold, the Muppets are on Netflix! Both the first and second (recent) films are on the streaming service right now and my family had a wonderful time re-watching them this week. I love the scene where Piggy beats Constantine up in the second film and when he says, "What a woman!" Kermit interjects, "Yeah, MY woman!" It's so adorable.

Striped Copperheads Exist

There are lots of copperheads, brown recluses and other harmful critters where I live, and I'm right next to some woods where we see just about everything--even turkeys! So when I heard that it's possible for copperheads to have stripes, it made my stomach twist in a knot. That's something we've been trained since childhood to recognize in order to avoid venomous snakes.

Boosting Your Immune System for Fall

We all know there are things that you can do to support your immune system... and things that are total malarky that are touted as golden elixirs of life. There are probably plenty of things in between, too; I know that vaccines don't always work, as my kiddo got a really mild case of chicken pox that perplexed doctors even after having had the vaccine years before. They thought they were bug bites at first!

People Who Stand Behind JKR

From Robbie Coltrane to Eddie Redmayne, the list of celebs supporting JK Rowling's terf remarks and works is disheartening, to say the least. Trans women are women. Period. And I'm in the middle camp here: I refuse to spend any more money on anything that goes to Rowling, but I won't let this take away the memories I have with my family and my siblings, as I've enjoyed the series twice.

So Many Grateful Dead Shoes

We've talked a lot about the Grateful Dead being featured on multiple shoe brands around here, and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, the band has always had plenty of cool swag, from roadies who sold shirts out of their cars to tapestries we've all got in our houses. It's really not that big of a deal, right?

Boozy Advent Calendars

Advent calendars are SO much fun, and now they are making really cute Christmas tree-shaped calendars that are perfect for mini bottles of your favorite booze. Most of these are sold empty, but then you can head over to your favorite place to buy mini bottles and fill it up with the gift recipient's favorite flavors!

I love making homemade countdown calendars for my loved ones. I've made weird jerky, sock, quote, goofy scavenger hunt and other kinds of countdowns and having an easy medium in which to organize them is super helpful. In fact, sometimes it's half the battle.

Disguising Dead Plants!

There's a wild post being shared about using dead plants as Christmas decorations and I'm here for it! Apparently people who kill their plants (particularly their mums) or let them die when it starts to frost have been spray painting those plants silver and adding holiday ornaments to make Christmas decorations!

Cat Halloween Costumes

When it comes to dogs, I find that they tolerate just about anything--mine do, at least! They are great sports and regularly participate in our annual GISH scavenger hunts. This year we are taking part in several online Halloween challenges, one of which is a pet costume challenge, and I think they will be just fine participating.

Iced Coffee at Home

Iced coffee is one of my favorite desserts. I love to add different flavors and toppings and create something that's more than just a refreshing pick-me-up--something that thoroughly satisfies my taste buds, too! My iced coffee takes a while, though, because I brew it and then refrigerate it. What if I could make it colder faster?

Worst Animals in Movie History

When it comes to animals portrayed in films, I have to say that I set the bar pretty low with my expectations. That's because I love animals and would rather see them not featured in films at all, and if you're going to use CGI instead I'm super on board!

That said, there are always going to be some less than stellar animals in movies. My favorite movies, The Goonies and The Neverending Story, both have weird animal portrayals in their respective octopus, wolf (Gmork) and luck dragon (Falkor). To me they are still special and I love them... but they are pretty terrible!

Which Stewie Is Your Sign?

Using animated characters to demonstrate one's zodiac is a popular pastime, but you almost always see shows like The Powerpuff Girls being used for them. That's fine, but sometimes it's more fun to play with some more grown-up memes, which is why I thought these Stewie zodiac memes were so hilarious.
As a Scorpio, I can definitely confirm that my meme is legit, even if I do think that we are typecast as murderers and villains far too often. We're also super passionate people concerned about the world! I thought a lot of these memes were pretty spot-on, too.

80s Horror Icons

It's that time of year again--time for movie monsters, slashers and other villains! We have more horror icons than ever to celebrate this Halloween, and while I'd still argue that we need more female horror icons in general, many of them hail from the 1980s.
