Waves of Blue

You probably already know about bioluminescent creatures, which are incredible enough as they are, but have you ever seen a larger animal swim through waters filled with them, creating stunning waves of color in the ocean?

This video shows dolphins swimming at night at Newport Beach while bioluminscent creatures light the water, making the dolphins themselves appear to glow. It's absolutely mesmerizing to watch!

Peter's Words

The best and worst quotes of TV shows are popular Internet sensations right now, and why wouldn't they be? It's fun to share the best (and worst) things our favorite characters have ever said, including those on Family Guy.

Favorite Face Masks

It looks like we're all going to need face masks for a while, so it's a good time to buy or make a few cloth masks to have handy. In my home of three, we can easily run out of masks since my husband works outside the house and I insist that they be washed after each use. So we have six in rotation for the time being and I plan on ordering a few more.

Greater Inequality in the Home During Pandemic

For many people sheltering at home, the reality of a heavier workload due to more people in the home at all times has made this pandemic even more stressful. This has fallen on women more heavily than men as women face working from home, homeschooling their children and caring for everyone's needs, cleaning the house, preparing meals and more while faced with incredible levels of stress and anxiety.

Printed Skin

It seems like everything is being produced via 3-D printer these days, so why not skin? Canadian scientists have developed a handheld printed skin that accelerates the healing of burn victims. Biomaterial sheets are placed over the skin next to each other like strips of wallpaper, and the device can be held in one hand, making it super portable for use.

Gorillas Destroy Poachers' Traps

While I hate the fact that people are still poaching gorillas (or any animals, for that matter), I'm so excited to share this news from National Geographic. Young gorillas are taking apart poacher traps as they find them, which not only points to just how much like us gorillas are, but that they're actually taking a stand against human violence against them, which is incredible and inspiring.

Playing During A Pandemic

If playing games via Zoom has taught me anything, it's that you can really play just about anything if you're flexible and creative enough! You can even have one person deal cards while the rest get photos of their hands, as long as you promise not to peek. Sure, texting your answers or holding them up during the call can be weird but it can also get pretty hilarious.

Nike Collaboration with Grateful Dead

Nike has collaborated with the Grateful Dead this year for their Nike SB Grateful Dead Dunks. Fans are sure to have mixed feelings about this, as the shoes, which feature a jagged green swish and fuzzy spots reminiscent of the dancing bears, do look cool, but they also represent some corporate collaboration that doesn't really ring true of the Dead or Jerry himself.

Cool Charcuterie Ideas

A charcuterie board full of meats, cheeses, crackers, breads, spreads, olives and veggies is always a good idea! It usually has something for everyone and provides fun, bite-sized things to nibble while you mingle and entertain. Sometimes the same old charcuterie board gets boring after a while, so how do you spice it up?

1980s Vehicles

While I'm no automobile expert, I do find the DeLorean delightful--if it's driven by Marty and Doc! But there are plenty of people who are head over heels for 1980s vehicles, like these 15 sports cars from the decade. Maybe you like door styles that open upward, or the futuristic styles that totally failed to predict the styles we currently have in 2020!

Covid-19 Poetry

Using poetry to deal with fear, trauma and uncertainty is an age old coping mechanism that doesn't only help you process your feelings, but results in something true that you can share with others. Sometimes it's beautiful, sometimes it's harrowing, but it's a time capsule in and of itself.

Couches for Cats

Have you seen the people knitting tiny couches for their cats? This little phenomenon is so cute you can barely stand it! They come in all shapes, sizes and colors, and you can make them for just about any size of cat.

Personally I love my cats cuddling on my couch with me, and I think they might fight over couches, even if we made them each a couch of their own! But it might be something fun to try, or even to make and sell if you enjoy fabric crafts.

Give Essential Workers More Pay

After relying on essential workers for the past few months, most people can agree that they really deserve more: more pay, hazard pay, healthcare, the works. And you know what? Every citizen should get these same benefits, particularly when working during a pandemic. It's shameful how our country is refusing to take care of its own citizens during a national emergency like this.
