Party Soundtracks

When it comes to game night, we all have different opinions about what the best music to play might be to keep the mood upbeat. Plenty of people like current pop music for the background. My mom, who likes many types of music, will try to sneak it over to country every now and then. Personally I think oldies give a great party vibe although a fun game night can be had with some ska music, especially if you're playing something fast!

Re-Imagination Album

Grateful Dead songs covered by a saxophone artist? It's rare, but it's also not the first time. Dave McMurray is releasing his album Grateful Deadication next month for Blue Note Records. On it, he's reimagining the songs of Jerry and the gang. Fans can get a sneak peek by watching the video of his cover of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter’s “Loser,” which even guest stars Bob Weir!

Your Favorite Character With No Name

It's funny, the other day I was thinking about how fun it is to analyze the zodiac signs of different characters and I thought what if we analyzed the little nameless characters on shows that we love but have no idea about? We get a glimpse here and there without really knowing anything about these characters... Anyway I had that thought and this list rating the best unnamed characters was published!

Support the Puppy Protection Act

When we hear about puppy mills being shut down, we might rejoice momentarily, but that only makes us forget that there are plenty of USDA-regulated mills in operation perfectly legally where dogs and puppies are crammed and suffering. These mass production facilities then send dogs to pet stores, brokers or Internet sales when shelters are already overrun with pups and dogs for adoption.

Plastic-Free Challenge

We all love the weird animals of the ocean, but they won't always be there if we don't help protect them from our fellow humans and, yes, our own actions. This World Ocean Day, we need to take a deeper look at what's happening. Did you know that enough plastic to fill a garbage truck is dumped into the ocean on a daily basis, and that it's estimated that we will have more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050? This just isn't acceptable.

Pride Frogs!

While perusing Etsy for some Pride items for our upcoming mini Pride event, I thought I'd combine my search with a search for frogs since I love them and my kid is always finding Pride-branded animals of one kind or another. I was delighted to find a full universe of Pride frogs!

Oh, these frogs. I love them more than I loved Peace Frogs in the 90s. Just look at them all! There are stickers, Amigurumi, buttons, totes, shirts... There are even little frogs with flags as capes. I'm so in love.

Businesses to Support During Pride Month

Rainbow-washing isn't helpful for LGBTQ+ people. It's merely corporations slapping rainbows on their merch to make more money and LOOK like they're doing good while they don't do anything to support the community. Ask any of these places what they did while politicians attacked trans youth this spring with over 100 anti-trans bills and you'll come up with nothing. They don't deserve the business.

Nuclear Reactors 907 - The National Nuclear Laboratory In The UK Announces New Agenda

The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is a U.K. government owned and operated nuclear fission services technology provider covering the whole nuclear fuel cycle. They have just launched their strategic plan which they call “This is NNL”. They are working towards legally binding targets in the U.K. to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Nuclear Reactors 906 - Nuclear Electricity Producting Is Falling In The United Kingdom

Supporters of nuclear power often argue against renewables on the grounds that the sun does not always shine on a solar array and the wind does not always blow to turn the blades of a wind turbine. They contrast nuclear power with wind and solar by saying that nuclear power provides reliable constant base power while the renewables cannot be relied upon.

Nuclear Reactors 905 - A Consortium Led By TerraPower Will Construct A Demonstration Natrium Molten Salt Reactor in Wyoming

This week, TerraPower, PacifiCorp and Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon announced the construction of a Natrium reactor demonstration project at a closing coal plant in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The companies have analyzed several potential locations in Wyoming for the plant which will contain a three hundred forty-five megawatt sodium-cooled fast reactor combined with a molten salt energy storage system.
