Running Out of Coffee

What will you do?

The state of our planet means that it's very likely that we'll run out of several hot resources within our lifetime, including coffee. Doesn't that just break your heart? I have friends sharing videos like this one, talking about growing their own beans, and I'm left wondering if I should start growing them, too.

I think when it comes down to it, we'll all probably use flavored syrups or instant versions with fake coffee, which sound about as bad as going without, don't they? But it doesn't feel like we're going to tackle these issues anytime soon with the way our governments are leaning.

So what would you do if we ran out of coffee? Share your thoughts in the chat.

Booze for a Cause

Share your fundraisers here!

The only thing better than your favorite drink is your favorite drink with proceeds going to benefit something you care about! Lately, I really think that just getting drink kits to go and tipping well is a great cause given the hardships that so many people are facing.

That said, there are actual beers, wines and other brews that you can buy with at least some proceeds going to causes you care about. What better way to enjoy a drink than to do so knowing your dollars went to good causes?

Pumpkin Beverages at Home

How do you get your fix?

I don't know about y'all, but I'm about DONE with 2020, DONE with summer, and DONE with our government lagging on covid response. It's all getting so old and I know many of us are fed up. While we protest and wait for an election (because what else can we do at this point?), I've been turning to Halloween for my hope. Even if we can't go anywhere, Halloween at home is my heart.

Because of this, I'm going to end up drinking all of my pumpkin tea well before fall! Luckily plenty of sellers have blends I can try, and by the time that season rolls around there will be syrups to use... hopefully. The post office situation worries me a bit, as does flu season approaching.

LaCroix Limoncello is My Drink of 2020

What's yours?

As a Millennial, I'm used to getting a little heat about how much I love sparkling water and avocados. I try every kind of sparkling water I can get my hands on, and my absolute favorite also happens to be a new flavor this year: LaCroix Limoncello.

Holy cow, is this good! It's so good that I was down to my last can and saved it in the fridge until payday. It's a blend of lemon with a hint of vanilla, and it tastes like lemon cake (without the sweetness, which I don't miss at all)! It's SO good and I hope it becomes a permanent flavor. If not, it's definitely still my drink of 2020.

Herbal Fizzy Drinks

While plenty of people enjoy soda, many don't like the product at all, especially the sugars found in many sodas. Homemade sodas can be much healthier as well as tastier, and you can tailor them to your personal tastes.

You can grow your own herbs or buy some from the store; ginger is probably my favorite, which is no surprise to many since it's so delicious, but you can even use fruit that you grow in your homemade soda! You can try recipes like this one with sparkling water, or if you have a water carbonation machine at home, just use that.

Respecting Non-Drinkers

We all need to do it!

I was reading a blog the other day about how we need to be more respectful of non-drinkers. When we goad people into drinking, are we any better than the caricatures of peer pressure we saw on Saturday morning cartoons or at school assemblies? It's kind of ridiculous.

We also need to stop asking people why they don't drink. This is incredibly disrespectful, and yet I know so many people who do it. Just don't! If the person wants you to know, they will tell you. Social media culture has us sharing every little detail but in reality, there are some things people want kept private.

How do you protect the non-drinkers at your events, or yourself as a non-drinker?

How Do You Flavor Your Drinks?

Share your favorite methods in the chat!

There are so many great ways to flavor drinks that I wonder why people even go to Starbucks anymore! OK, Starbucks is delicious, but I can make most of what they make at home for way fewer calories and carbs. Jodran's Skinny Syrups is one of my favorite methods in doing so, but I've been finding lots of other great low-calorie, low-carb alternatives lately. One that I can't wait to try is One on One Flavors.

This store sells 400 flavors that are used in many common store products and you can buy them to flavor things at home, from drinks and desserts to even meat-flavored stuff if that is your thing. They don't have sugar so you can add as much or as little sugar or sweetener as you like. I'm really intrigued and can't wait to make "cornbread" chaffles.

Have you tried this store? If not, what other flavoring agents do you recommend? I'd love to hear about them.

Grimoire Tea

Something special for every palate

My love of tea and coffee truly knows no bounds, and I'm the kind of person who couldn't choose between coffee and tea if you held me at gunpoint. OK, I guess I'd have to go with coffee, but I'd sure miss my tea! Lately I've become obsessed with a new-to-me brand called Grimoire Tea.

Grimoire Tea is run by one woman who creates, blends, labels and sells her tea--the works! She sells thousands of these little bottles, and they're all inspired by fandoms, feature cool artwork and are sealed with wax! Her flavors are so unique, complete with dried tea, fruits, and even sugar crystals.

Favorite Black-Owned Bars

Share yours in the chat

Many of us are striving to support more Black-owned businesses, which is something we can do ALL of the time and not just during moments when we're rallying against police brutality. It's easy enough to search for Black-owned businesses in your city, too.

You might have a favorite bar or restaurant where you like to drink to share, but if not, many cities even have compilations of lists for you to peruse in finding new places to try. From lists of night clubs and bars, google your city to see what places might be open near you. Don't forget to check for hours, delivery and curbside options during social distancing.
